Lens shift is the key differentiator of this lens. The 10% horizontal and 4% vertical shift range allows the projector to be installed off the screen centerline, with lens shift bringing the image back into alignment without keystone correction. Keystone correction comes at a cost—each adjustment step sacrifices some effective pixels, leaving text edges blurred. In professional installations, never use keystone correction when lens shift can solve the alignment; this is the baseline for image quality.
II. Converting Throw Ratio to Installation Distance
The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This lens has a zoom range (0.85–1.37:1), so a given image size corresponds to a range of distances. Installation at any point within that range allows the image to be focused.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100-inch | 2.15 m | Approx. 1.83 – 2.95 m |
| 120-inch | 2.58 m | Approx. 2.19 – 3.53 m |
| 150-inch | 3.22 m | Approx. 2.74 – 4.42 m |
| 200-inch | 4.30 m | Approx. 3.65 – 5.89 m |
These distances are clear measurements from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not include clearance for rear chassis cooling or cable connections. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual values are subject to on-site measurement and the manual.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: toward the short end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; toward the long end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. When the venue allows, placing the lens near the middle of the range is recommended. After installation, find the sharpest setting on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift—adjusting both variables at once makes precise alignment difficult.
III. Compatible Models (1 Model, Honghe)
The table below is ordered from newest to oldest by model production date and includes the resolution, brightness, and zoom ratio of the factory-supplied lens for each model, making it easy to identify the right option for a project.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution | Zoom Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| HT-D203UA | 20000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.33X |
The zoom ratio is the zoom factor of the model's factory-supplied standard lens (upper limit ÷ lower limit of its factory throw-ratio range), not the zoom range of the lens featured in this article.
Factory Lens Models
Among these models, 1 model can be fitted with a factory lens. The throw ratio for each lens model is listed below, providing a reference for comparing factory configurations.
Honghe Factory Lens
| Factory Lens Model | Throw Ratio |
|---|---|
| A11 | 0.65~0.75 |
| A18 | 0.84~1.02 |
| A19 | 1.02~1.36 |
| A20 | 1.2~1.5 |
| A21 | 1.5~2.0 |
| A22 | 2.0~4.0 |
| A23 | 4.0~7.2 |
| A27 | 7.2~10.8 |
The 0.85–1.37:1 model featured in this article has a focal range closest to the factory A19 (1.02~1.36), enabling direct comparison and selection.
Common Characteristics of These Models
The factory-supplied standard lenses for these models generally have a throw ratio of 1.5-2.0:1. The 0.85–1.37:1 model featured here effectively adjusts the focal range, producing a different image size at the same projection distance—the direct reason for replacing the lens. It also retains the full lens-shift capability, so the image can still be aligned after the focal range is adjusted.
IV. Three Checks Before Replacement
- Confirm that the panel and resolution match. This model is compatible with 0.96-inch panels. Projectors with a different panel size or resolution will produce somewhat different projection results, so checking the nameplate on the chassis before installation is the safest approach.
- Check the interfaces and locking mechanism. Interfaces are generally compatible across the same-generation platform, but the position of the locking latch varies by generation. If the image appears skewed or the edges look soft after installation, the latch is usually not fully engaged rather than the lens itself being faulty.
- Account for lens-shift margin in the installation. The shift range provides some installation flexibility, but edge image quality declines when it is pushed to the limit. In practice, keep shift within 70% of the specified value.
For models not on the list, it is safer to send the chassis nameplate and a photo of the original lens for verification. Same-generation platforms often share interfaces, but the risk of ordering based on a similar model number is not worth taking.
