NEC NP13ZL Zoom Long Throw Lens Guide for 22 Compatible Models

Oct 30, 2026, 24:15:22 UTC

NEC Genuine NP13ZL Zoom Lens is a factory-supplied optical accessory for NEC engineering projectors, designed for long-throw (Long Throw) applications with a throw ratio of 1.46-2.95:1. The factory compatibility list covers 22 models; before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size, with no need for adapter-ring workarounds. The value of a genuine factory lens lies not in the extra figures in the specifications, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and lens mount of that projector series. Once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focus range all operate at their design values, with no need to use keystone correction to compensate for image quality.

These specifications are subject to the manufacturer's official specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and mount type not shown in the specification table, please contact us with your projector model. Ordering based solely on a similar model carries the risk that the lens will not fit.

2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio

The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This genuine lens is a zoom lens (1.46-2.95:1), so the same image size corresponds to a range of installation distances, and it can focus anywhere within that range.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mApprox. 3.14 – 6.34 m
120 inches2.58 mApprox. 3.77 – 7.61 m
150 inches3.22 mApprox. 4.71 – 9.51 m
200 inches4.30 mApprox. 6.28 – 12.69 m

These figures represent the clear distance from the front of the lens to the screen and do not include cooling clearance or space for cable connections at the rear of the projector. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual distances should be verified on site and are subject to the manufacturer's manual.

Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: toward the near end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; toward the far end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. When the venue allows, the middle of the range is recommended. After installation, first find the sharpest image using the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift.

To verify whether a model not on the list is compatible, send us photos of the projector nameplate and the existing lens. Platforms of the same generation often share the same mount, but the risk of ordering based solely on a similar model is not worth taking.

Throw Ratios by Projector Series

The nominal throw ratio varies by series when the same NP13ZL Zoom is installed on the projector series listed below, so select the value according to the actual projector series.

Model SeriesThrow Ratio
—1.46-2.95:1

4. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Confirm the projector imaging chip and resolution. Genuine lenses are designed for a specific panel size. When the panel specifications differ, the image circle cannot cover the panel, resulting in vignetting or edge light loss after installation.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a nominal throw ratio of 1.46-2.95:1. Apply the table in Section 2 to your venue dimensions; a fixed-focal-length lens offers no zoom range, and a zoom lens should also allow for 10–20 cm of margin at both ends.
  • Check the mount and locking mechanism. Genuine lenses are calibrated to the mount used by that projector series. After installation, you must hear the lens lock into place. A skewed image or soft edges are usually caused by incomplete locking rather than a problem with the lens itself.

If you are unsure, send us one photo each of the projector nameplate and the existing lens nameplate. Verification against the actual hardware is the safest approach.
