Genuine NEC NP21ZL Zoom Long-Throw Lens for 11 Compatible Models

NEC Genuine OEM Lens NP21ZL Zoom is the original optical accessory for NEC engineering projectors, belonging to the long-throw (Long Throw) category, with a throw ratio of 5.47-8.53:1. The OEM compatibility list covers 11 models; simply check the model number on the body and the panel size before installation—no adapter rings needed to make it fit. The value of a genuine OEM lens does not lie in a few extra rows of figures in the spec sheet, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and mount of that series: once installed, the image circle, edge uniformity and focus travel are all design values, so there is no need to compensate for image quality with keystone correction.

The above specifications are subject to the official OEM specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance and mount type that are not listed in the spec sheet, please check with us using your projector model; ordering directly based on a similar model number carries the risk that the lens will not fit.

II. Converting Throw Ratio into Installation Distance

The throw ratio is the ratio of installation distance to image width. This genuine OEM lens is a zoom lens (5.47-8.53:1), so a given image size corresponds to a range of distances, and any position within that range can be focused properly during installation.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mapprox. 11.76 – 18.34 m
120 inches2.58 mapprox. 14.11 – 22.01 m
150 inches3.22 mapprox. 17.64 – 27.51 m
200 inches4.30 mapprox. 23.52 – 36.68 m

The distances above are the clear distance from the front face of the lens to the screen, and do not allow for heat dissipation and cabling space at the rear of the projector. Figures are calculated for a 16:10 image; in practice, on-site measurement and the OEM manual shall prevail.

Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: toward the near end the image is brighter and the edges slightly softer; toward the far end the edges are sharper and brightness slightly lower. Where the venue allows, it is recommended to place the lens in the middle of the range, and after installation first find the sharpest position on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift.

The table below is taken from the OEM compatibility list; brightness and resolution are filled in from the model database, and where they cannot be retrieved, "—" is shown rather than any guess.

For models not on the list, please send us a photo of the nameplate on the projector body and of your existing lens so we can verify compatibility—models of the same generation often share the same mount, but ordering on the basis of a similar model number is not worth the risk.

Throw Ratio by Model Series

The nominal throw ratio differs when the same NP21ZL Zoom is used on the series listed below, so selection should be based on the series to which your projector actually belongs.

—5.47-8.53:1

IV. Three Things to Confirm Before Replacement

  • Confirm the projector chip and resolution.Genuine OEM lenses are designed for a specific panel size; when the panel specifications differ, the image circle cannot cover the full frame, and the result after installation is dark corners or light loss at the edges.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a nominal throw ratio of 5.47-8.53:1; use the table in Section II to match your venue dimensions. Fixed-focus lenses leave no margin, and zoom lenses still need 10–20 cm reserved at both ends.
  • Check the mount and the lock.Genuine OEM lenses are calibrated to the mount of the corresponding projector series, and you must hear the lock click into place after installation; a skewed image or soft edges are usually caused by an incomplete lock rather than by the lens itself.

If you are unsure, take one photo of the projector's nameplate and one of the nameplate on the existing lens and send them to us—verification against the physical items is the safest approach.
