NEC NP29ZL Zoom Long-Throw Projector Lens Guide: Compatible with PH1000U and PH1400U

Nov 02, 2026, 07:11:21 UTC

NEC Factory-Original Lens NP29ZL Zoom is a factory-original optical accessory for NEC engineering projectors. It is a long-throw (Long Throw) lens with a throw ratio of 4.16-6.96:1. The factory compatibility list covers 2 projector models. Before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size; there is no need to make do with an adapter ring. The value of a factory-original lens lies not in a few extra rows of specifications, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and lens mount of that model series: once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focusing range all meet the design specifications, so there is no need to use keystone correction to compensate for image quality.

I. Lens Specifications

These specifications are subject to the manufacturer's official specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and lens-mount type not shown in the specifications table, please consult us using the projector model. Ordering solely on the basis of a similar model carries the risk that the lens will not fit.

II. Converting Throw Ratio to Installation Distance

The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This factory-original lens has a zoom range of 4.16-6.96:1, so the same image size corresponds to a range of installation distances. The lens can focus at any distance within that range.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mApprox. 8.94 – 14.96 m
120 inches2.58 mApprox. 10.73 – 17.96 m
150 inches3.22 mApprox. 13.42 – 22.45 m
200 inches4.30 mApprox. 17.89 – 29.93 m

The above distances represent the clear space from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not include space behind the projector for heat dissipation or cable connections. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual distances should be verified on site and according to the manufacturer's manual.

Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: near the close end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the far end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. Where site conditions allow, use the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest setting on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift.

III. Compatible Models (2 Models)

The following table is taken from the factory compatibility list. Brightness and resolution have been populated from the model database; where unavailable, they are shown as “—”, with no values estimated.

ModelBrightnessResolution
PH1000U11000 lumens1920x1200
PH1400U13500 lumens1920x1200

To determine whether a model outside the list is supported, please send us photos of the projector nameplate and the existing lens for verification—platforms of the same generation often share a lens mount, but placing an order based solely on a similar model is not worth the risk.

Throw Ratio by Projector Model Series

The rated throw ratio differs among the following model series when the same NP29ZL Zoom lens is used. When selecting a lens, use the value corresponding to the actual projector series.

Model SeriesThrow Ratio
—4.16-6.96:1

IV. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Confirm the projector chip and resolution. Factory-original lenses are designed for a specific panel size. If the panel specifications differ, the image circle cannot cover the panel, resulting in vignetting or light loss at the edges.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a rated throw ratio of 4.16-6.96:1. Use the table in Section II to calculate the distance for your site dimensions. A fixed-focus lens provides no adjustment margin, while a zoom lens should also allow 10–20 cm of margin at both ends.
  • Verify the lens mount and locking mechanism. The factory-original lens is calibrated to the mount of that model series, and you must hear it lock into place after installation. A skewed image or soft edges are usually caused by incomplete locking rather than the lens itself.

If you are unsure, take one photo of the projector nameplate and one of the existing lens nameplate, then send them to us. Verification against the actual hardware is the most reliable approach.
