Panasonic ET-EMS650 Long-Throw Lens for PT-MZ20KL, PT-MZ17KL, PT-MZ14KL and 16 Other Models

Panasonic Original Lens ET-EMS650 is a genuine optical accessory for Panasonic engineering projectors. It is a long-throw lens with a 1.35-2.10:1 throw ratio, designed for a 1.0" 3LCD panel. The manufacturer's compatibility list covers 19 models. Before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size—no adapter rings are needed. The value of an original lens lies not in the additional figures in the specification sheet, but in the fact that it is factory-calibrated for the optical path and mount of the corresponding projector series. Once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focus travel all operate at their design values, eliminating the need to rely on keystone correction to compensate for image quality.

II. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio

The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This original zoom lens has a throw ratio of 1.35-2.10:1. For a given image size, it supports a range of installation distances, and the lens can be focused at any distance within that range.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mapprox. 2.90 – 4.51 m
120 inches2.58 mapprox. 3.48 – 5.42 m
150 inches3.22 mapprox. 4.35 – 6.77 m
200 inches4.30 mapprox. 5.80 – 9.03 m

The distances above are the clear distances from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not include space required for rear-chassis ventilation and cable connections. They are calculated for a 16:10 aspect ratio; actual distances should be verified on site and according to the manufacturer's manual.

Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: toward the shorter end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; toward the longer end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. When the venue allows it, use the middle of the range. After installation, find the sharpest image using the focus ring, and then fine-tune the lens shift.

For a model not included in the list, send us photos of the projector nameplate and the existing lens so we can verify compatibility—platforms from the same generation often share the same mount, but ordering based solely on a similar model is not worth the risk.

Throw Ratio by Projector Series

The nominal throw ratio varies by series when the same ET-EMS650 is installed. Use the value corresponding to the actual projector series when selecting a lens.

IV. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Make sure the panel size matches. ET-EMS650 is designed for a 1.0" 3LCD panel. Even if the mount fits, a projector with a different panel size or resolution may have problems with the image circle and edge illumination.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a nominal throw ratio of 1.35-2.10:1. Use the table in Section II to calculate the distance for your venue. A fixed-focus lens offers no adjustment margin, while a zoom lens still requires a 10–20 cm margin at both ends.
  • Verify the mount and locking mechanism. The original lens is calibrated for the mount of the corresponding projector series, and it must audibly click into the locked position after installation. A skewed image or soft edges are usually caused by incomplete locking rather than a defect in the lens itself.

If you are unsure, take one photo of the projector nameplate and one of the nameplate on the existing lens, and send them to us. Verification against the physical units is the most reliable approach.
