Sharp XP-58ZL Short Zoom Lens Guide: Compatibility

Sharp OEM Lens XP-58ZL Short Zoom is an OEM optical accessory for Sharp engineering projectors. It is a short-throw lens with a throw ratio of 0.55-0.75:1. The factory model compatibility list covers 4 models; before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size—there is no need to improvise with an adapter ring. The value of an OEM lens lies not in the additional figures in its specifications, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and mount of that projector series. Once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focus travel are all at their designed values, so there is no need to use keystone correction to compensate for image quality.

The above specifications are subject to the official factory specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and mount type not listed in the specifications, please contact us with the projector model for verification. Ordering based solely on a similar model risks a lens that will not fit.

II. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio

The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This OEM lens is a zoom lens (0.55-0.75:1), so a given screen size corresponds to a range of distances. During installation, the image can be focused at any position within that range.

Screen SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mApprox. 1.18 – 1.61 m
120 inches2.58 mApprox. 1.42 – 1.93 m
150 inches3.22 mApprox. 1.77 – 2.42 m
200 inches4.30 mApprox. 2.37 – 3.22 m

The distances shown are clear distances from the front of the lens to the screen and do not allow for ventilation and cable-management space behind the projector. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual distances should be verified on site and according to the factory manual.

Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: near the close end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the wide end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. When site conditions allow, use the middle of the range; after installation, first find the sharpest setting on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift.

III. Compatible Projector Models (4 Models)

The table below is taken from the factory model compatibility list. Brightness and resolution have been populated from the model database; values that cannot be obtained are marked "—" and have not been estimated.

ModelBrightnessResolution

XP-X141Q-W13500 lumens3840x2400
XP-X171Q-B16500 lumens3840x2400

For models not listed, send us photos of the projector nameplate and current lens for verification—platforms from the same generation often share a mount, but ordering based on a similar model carries unnecessary fit risk.

Throw Ratio by Model Series

The rated throw ratio varies when the same XP-58ZL Short Zoom is used with the series below, so select the value for the actual projector series.

IV. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Confirm the projector imaging chip and resolution.OEM lenses are designed for a specific panel size. If the panel specifications differ, the image circle cannot cover the full image, resulting in vignetting or edge light loss.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a rated throw ratio of 0.55-0.75:1; apply the table in Section II to your site dimensions. A fixed-focus lens offers no adjustment margin, and even a zoom lens requires 10–20 cm of clearance at both ends of the range.
  • Verify the mount and locking mechanism. The OEM lens is calibrated to the mount of that projector series, and you must hear it lock into place after installation. A skewed image or soft edges are usually due to incomplete locking, not a problem with the lens itself.

If you are unsure, take one photo each of the projector nameplate and current lens nameplate and send them to us. Verification against the actual hardware is the safest approach.
