JVC VSL-2012 Fixed Standard Throw Lens: Compatible with DLA-VS4500 & DLA-VS4700

JVC Genuine Lens VSL-2012 Fixed is an original optical accessory for JVC professional projectors. It is a standard-throw lens (Standard Throw) with a 1.18:1 throw ratio. The manufacturer's compatibility list covers 2 models; before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size—no need to make do with adapter rings. The value of an original lens lies not in extra rows of figures in the specification sheet, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and lens mount of that model series. Once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focus travel all operate at their designed values, eliminating the need to compensate for image quality with keystone correction.

The above specifications are subject to the manufacturer's official specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and mount type not listed in the table, please provide your projector model so we can verify compatibility. Ordering solely on the basis of a similar model carries the risk that the lens will not fit.

2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio

The throw ratio is the ratio of installation distance to image width. This genuine lens has a fixed focal length (1.18:1), so the installation distance changes linearly with image size and offers no adjustment margin. Accurate measurements are essential before installation.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mapprox. 2.54 m
120 inches2.58 mapprox. 3.04 m
150 inches3.22 mapprox. 3.81 m
200 inches4.30 mapprox. 5.07 m

The above figures represent the clear distance from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not account for rear housing cooling and cable-connection space. These values are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual distances should be verified on site and in accordance with the manufacturer's manual.

3. Compatible Models (2 models)

The table below is taken from the manufacturer's compatibility list. Brightness and resolution are populated from the model database; where data is unavailable, they are marked “—” rather than estimated.

For compatibility with models outside the list, please send us photos of the projector nameplate and existing lens so we can verify them. Platforms of the same generation often share a lens mount, but placing an order based solely on a similar model name is too risky.

Throw Ratios by Model Series

Although the same VSL-2012 Fixed lens is used with the series listed below, the specified throw ratio may differ. Select the value based on the series of the projector you own.

4. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Confirm the projector panel and resolution. Original lenses are designed for a specific panel size. If the panel specification differs, the image circle cannot cover the full image, resulting in vignetting or edge light loss after installation.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a specified throw ratio of 1.18:1; use the table in Section 2 to calculate the distance for your installation space. Since this is a fixed-focal-length lens, there is no adjustment margin; even with a zoom lens, allow 10–20 cm at both ends.
  • Verify the lens mount and locking mechanism. Original lenses are calibrated to the mount of the corresponding projector series, and you must hear the lens click into the locked position after installation. An image that appears skewed or soft at the edges is usually due to incomplete locking, rather than a fault with the lens itself.

If you are unsure, send us one photo each of the projector nameplate and the nameplate on the existing lens. Verification against the actual hardware is the safest approach.
