Original Sony VPLL-Z8008 lens with standard throw, 0.80-1.02:1 throw ratio, for 1 Sony projector model including VPL-GTZ380. Bulk orders via official channels.

Genuine Sony Lens VPLL-Z8008 is a genuine optical accessory for Sony professional projectors. It is a standard-throw lens (Standard Throw) with a 0.80-1.02:1 throw ratio, designed for GTZ-series panels measured in inches. The official compatibility list covers 1 model; before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size, with no need for an adapter ring workaround. The value of a genuine lens lies not in the extra figures in a specification sheet, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and lens mount of that projector series. Once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focusing travel are all at their design values, so there is no need to use keystone correction to compensate for image quality.
1. Lens Specifications
| Brand | Sony (Sony) |
| Lens Model | VPLL-Z8008 |
| Throw Ratio | 0.80-1.02:1 |
| Product Type | Standard throw (Standard Throw) |

The above specifications are subject to the manufacturer's official specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and mount type not shown in the specification table, please verify them with us using the exact projector model; ordering based only on a similar model risks a lens that will not fit.
2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio
The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This genuine lens is a zoom lens (0.80-1.02:1), so the same image size corresponds to a range of installation distances. During installation, it can focus at any distance within this range.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | Approx. 1.72 – 2.19 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | Approx. 2.06 – 2.63 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | Approx. 2.58 – 3.29 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | Approx. 3.44 – 4.39 m |
The above distances are the clear distances from the front of the lens to the projection screen and do not include space for rear ventilation or cable connections. The calculations are based on a 16:10 image; actual values should be confirmed through on-site measurements and in accordance with the manufacturer's manual.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: near the close end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the far end, the edges are sharper and brightness is slightly lower. When the venue allows, positioning the projector near the middle of the range is recommended; after installation, first find the sharpest position using the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift.
3. Compatible Models (1 Model)
The following table is taken from the official compatibility list. Brightness and resolution are sourced from the model database; where data cannot be obtained, “—” is shown, and no estimates are made.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| VPL-GTZ380 | 10000 lumens | 4K, 4096 x 2160 |
To determine whether a model outside the list is compatible, please send us photos of the projector's nameplate and the existing lens for verification—platforms of the same generation often share the same mount, but the risk of ordering based on a similar model is not worth taking.
Throw Ratios by Projector Series
The nominal throw ratio varies by series when the same VPLL-Z8008 is installed on the series listed below. When selecting a lens, use the value for the series of the actual projector.
| Model Series | Throw Ratio |
|---|---|
| — | 0.80-1.02:1 |
4. Three Checks Before Replacement
- The panel size must match. VPLL-Z8008 is designed for GTZ-series panels measured in inches. Even if the lens fits the mount, a projector with a different panel size or resolution may exhibit problems with the image circle and edge illumination.
- Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a nominal throw ratio of 0.80-1.02:1. Use the table in Section 2 to calculate the distance for your venue. A fixed-focus lens offers no adjustment margin, while even a zoom lens requires 10–20 cm of clearance at both ends.
- Verify the mount and locking mechanism. The genuine lens is calibrated to the mount of projectors in this series. After installation, you must hear it click into the locked position; a skewed image or soft edges are usually caused by incomplete locking rather than a problem with the lens itself.
If you are unsure, take one photo each of the projector's nameplate and the existing lens's nameplate and send them to us; verification against the actual products is the most reliable approach.
