NEC NP41ZL Zoom Long-Throw Projector Lens Guide for 17 Compatible Models

NEC Genuine Lens NP41ZL Zoom is an original optical accessory for NEC professional projectors. It is a long-throw lens (Long Throw) with a throw ratio of 1.30-3.02:1. The official compatibility list covers 17 models. Before installation, simply verify the projector model and panel size; there is no need to make do with adapter rings. The value of a genuine lens lies not in the extra figures in a specification sheet, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and lens mount of the relevant projector series. Once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focus travel all meet their design specifications, so there is no need to use keystone correction to compensate for image quality.

The above specifications are based on the manufacturer's official specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and lens-mount type not shown in the specifications table, please contact us with your projector model. Ordering solely on the basis of similar model numbers carries the risk that the lens will not fit.

2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio

The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This genuine lens is a zoom lens (1.30-3.02:1), so a given image size corresponds to a range of distances. It can focus anywhere within that range during installation.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mApprox. 2.79 – 6.49 m
120 inches2.58 mApprox. 3.35 – 7.79 m
150 inches3.22 mApprox. 4.19 – 9.74 m
200 inches4.30 mApprox. 5.59 – 12.99 m

These figures represent the clear distance from the front face of the lens to the screen and do not include space required for rear housing ventilation and cable connections. They are calculated for a 16:10 aspect ratio; actual values should be confirmed through on-site measurements and the manufacturer's manual.

Image quality differs between the two ends of the zoom range: at the near end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; at the far end, the edges are sharper and the image is slightly dimmer. When the venue allows, it is recommended to set the installation distance near the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest position using the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift.

For compatibility with a model not on the list, please send us photos of the projector nameplate and the existing lens for verification—platforms from the same generation often share a lens mount, but ordering based solely on similar model numbers is not worth the risk.

Throw Ratios by Projector Series

The rated throw ratio varies when the same NP41ZL Zoom is used with the following projector series. Select the value according to the series of the projector in use.

Projector SeriesThrow Ratio
—1.30-3.02:1

4. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Confirm the projector's imaging chip and resolution. An original lens is designed for a specific panel size. If the panel specifications differ, the image circle cannot cover the full panel, resulting in vignetting or light loss at the edges.
  • Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a rated throw ratio of 1.30-3.02:1; use the table in Section 2 to determine the distance for your venue. A fixed lens offers no margin for adjustment, and even a zoom lens should be allowed 10–20 cm of margin at both ends.
  • Verify the lens mount and locking mechanism. The original lens is calibrated to the lens mount of the relevant projector series, and you must hear the locking mechanism engage after installation. Image misalignment or soft edges are most often caused by incomplete locking, rather than a problem with the lens itself.

If you are unsure, take one photo of the projector nameplate and one of the nameplate on the existing lens, then send them to us. Verification against the actual hardware is the most reliable approach.
