LP3004 is a medium-to-long-throw lens for engineering projectors (NEC and Panasonic), with a 1.6–2.1:1 throw ratio and lens shift capability. It is compatible with 25 projector models across 2 model series. This article presents the lens specifications, installation distances, model compatibility list, and replacement considerations in one place.

The lens shift capability is the key distinguishing feature of this lens. The shift range of ±24.9% horizontally and ±6% vertically allows the projector to be installed away from the screen's central axis, with lens shift bringing the image back into alignment without the need for keystone correction. Keystone correction comes at a cost—each adjustment reduces the effective pixel count and makes text edges appear blurred. In professional installations, never use keystone correction when lens shift can resolve the alignment issue; preserving image quality is the bottom line.
2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio
The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This is a zoom lens (1.6–2.1:1), so a given image size corresponds to a range of distances, and the image can be focused anywhere within that range during installation.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | approx. 3.44 – 4.51 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | approx. 4.13 – 5.42 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | approx. 5.16 – 6.77 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | approx. 6.88 – 9.03 m |
These figures represent the clear distance from the front of the lens to the screen and do not include clearance behind the projector for ventilation and cable connections. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; in practice, follow on-site measurements and the manual.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: near the short-throw end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the long-throw end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. When site conditions allow, use the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest position on the focus ring, then fine-tune the shift—adjusting both variables at once makes precise alignment difficult.

Factory Lens Model Options
Among these models, 24 models support factory lenses. The throw ratio for each option is listed below for comparison with factory lens solutions.
NEC Factory Lenses
| Factory Lens Model | Throw Ratio |
|---|---|
| NP-9LS12ZM1 | 1.2-1.72:1 |
| NP-9LS13ZM1 | 1.33-2.1:1 |
| NP-9LS16ZM1 | 1.62-2.7:1 |
| NP-9LS20ZM1 | 2.09-3.9:1 |
| NP-9LS40ZM1 | 4.07-6.34:1 |
The 1.6–2.1:1 model featured in this article has the closest focal range to the factory NP-9LS13ZM1 (1.33-2.1:1), making the two options easy to compare directly.
Common Features Across These Models
The throw ratios of the standard factory lenses across these 25 models largely vary: Depends on the lens. The 1.6–2.1:1 model featured here effectively adjusts the focal range, enabling different image sizes at the same projection distance—this is the direct reason for replacing the lens. It also retains full lens shift capability, allowing the image to remain aligned after the focal range is adjusted.
4. Three Checks Before Replacement
- Verify the panel size. Panel specifications for this model have not yet been added to our records. Please send us a photo of the projector's nameplate for verification.
- Check the interface and locking mechanism. Interfaces are generally compatible within the same generation of platforms, but locking latch positions vary by generation. If the image is skewed or the edges are not sharp after installation, the lock is usually not fully engaged rather than the lens itself being faulty.
- Account for shift margin in the installation. The shift range provides some installation flexibility, but edge image quality declines when it is pushed to the limit. For actual operation, keep shift within 70% of the rated values.
To confirm whether a model outside the list is compatible, it is best to send us photos of the projector nameplate and original lens. Same-generation platforms often share the same interface, but ordering solely because a model designation looks similar is not worth the risk.
