WJ12U is a short-throw lens for the 0.65/0.66/0.67 panel group (Ricoh), with a throw ratio of 0.62–0.8:1 and lens shift. It is compatible with 6 projector models across 1 model series. This article presents the lens specifications, installation distances, model compatibility list, and replacement considerations all in one place.

Lens shift is the key differentiator of this lens. The ±53% horizontal and ±23% vertical shift ranges allow the projector to be installed off the screen centerline, with lens shift bringing the image back into position without requiring keystone correction. Keystone correction comes at a cost—each adjustment step sacrifices some effective pixels and can blur text edges. In professional installation, always use lens shift instead of keystone correction whenever possible; this is the baseline for image quality.
2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio
The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This lens has a zoom range of 0.62–0.8:1, so a given image size corresponds to a range of installation distances; it can focus at any position within that range.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | Approx. 1.33 – 1.72 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | Approx. 1.60 – 2.06 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | Approx. 2.00 – 2.58 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | Approx. 2.67 – 3.44 m |
These figures represent the clear distance from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not include clearance for rear chassis cooling and wiring. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; in practice, follow on-site measurements and the manual.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: toward the near end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; toward the far end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. Where the venue allows, use a position near the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest position on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift—adjusting both variables at once makes precise alignment difficult.
3. Compatible Models (6 Models, Ricoh)
The table below is arranged by model production date from newest to oldest and includes the resolution, brightness, and factory lens zoom ratio for each model, making it easy to identify the right option for your project requirements.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution | Zoom Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| WUL6690 | 9600 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.6X |
| WUL6680 | 8500 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.6X |
| PJ RU6700L | 7000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.6X |
| PJ RU6808L | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.6X |
| PJ RU6800L | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.6X |
| PJ RU6708L | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.6X |
The zoom ratio is the zoom factor of the model’s original standard lens (upper limit ÷ lower limit of its standard throw ratio range), not the zoom range of the lens featured in this article.
Shared Features of These Models
The original standard lenses for these 6 models generally have throw ratios concentrated around 1.25-2.0:1. The model featured here, with a 0.62–0.8:1 ratio, effectively changes the focal range, allowing different image sizes at the same projection distance—this is the direct reason for replacing the lens. At the same time, it retains the full lens-shift capability, so the image can still be aligned after the focal range is changed.
4. Three Checks Before Replacement
- The panel and resolution must match. This model supports a 0.67-inch panel. Projectors with a different panel size or resolution will produce somewhat different projection results, so checking the nameplate on the projector before installation is the safest approach.
- Interface and locking mechanism. Interfaces are generally well compatible within the same platform generation, but locking latch positions differ between generations. If the image appears skewed or the edges are not sharp after installation, the locking mechanism is usually not fully engaged; this is generally not an issue with the lens itself.
- Account for lens-shift headroom in the installation plan. The shift range provides some installation flexibility, but edge quality declines when the lens is pushed to its limits. During actual use, keep operation within 70% of the rated value.
For models outside the list, the safest approach is to send us the projector nameplate and a photo of the original lens for verification—platforms of the same generation often share interfaces, but the risk of ordering based on a similar model designation is not worth taking.
