SC223 is a short-throw lens for a 0.96-inch panel (Sony), with a 0.85–1.37:1 throw ratio and lens shift. It is compatible with 2 projector models across 1 model series. This article presents the lens specifications, installation distances, model compatibility list, and replacement considerations in one place.

Lens shift is the key differentiator of this lens. The 10% horizontal and 4% vertical shift ranges allow the projector to be installed away from the screen’s central axis and the image repositioned using lens shift without relying on keystone correction. Keystone correction comes at a cost—each level of adjustment sacrifices some effective pixels and makes text edges appear blurred. In professional installations, never use keystone correction when lens shift can solve the issue; preserving image quality is the non-negotiable priority.
2. Converting Throw Ratio to Installation Distance
The throw ratio is the ratio of installation distance to image width. This lens supports zoom (0.85–1.37:1), so a given image size corresponds to a range of installation distances, and the lens can be focused anywhere within that range.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | Approx. 1.83 – 2.95 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | Approx. 2.19 – 3.53 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | Approx. 2.74 – 4.42 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | Approx. 3.65 – 5.89 m |
These figures represent the clear distance from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not account for clearance behind the chassis for cooling and cabling. The distances are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual distances should be verified through on-site measurements and the manual.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: near the short-throw end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the long-throw end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. Where site conditions permit, use the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest position on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift—adjusting both variables at once makes it difficult to achieve the optimum.
3. Compatible Models (2 Models, Sony)
The table below is arranged by model production date, from newest to oldest, and lists the resolution, brightness, and original lens zoom ratio for each model, enabling quick selection according to project requirements.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution | Zoom Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| SNP-LU21K | 21000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | — |
| SNP-LU18K | 18000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | — |
4. Three Checks Before Replacement
- Match the panel and resolution. This model is designed for 0.96-inch panels. Projection performance varies slightly among projectors with different panel sizes or resolutions, so it is safest to check the chassis nameplate before installation.
- Check the connectors and locking mechanism. Connectors are generally interchangeable within the same platform generation, but the locking clip positions vary between generations. If the image is skewed or the edges are not sharp after installation, the lock is usually not fully engaged; this is not an issue with the lens itself.
- Include lens-shift headroom in the installation plan. The shift range provides installation flexibility, but edge quality declines at the limits. For regular use, keep the adjustment within 70% of the nominal values.
To determine whether a model not on the list can be used, send us a photo of the chassis nameplate and the original lens for verification. Models from the same platform generation often share the same interfaces, but ordering based solely on a similar model designation is too risky.
