VPLL-Z3010 is a medium-to-long-throw lens for Sony professional projectors, with a throw ratio of 1–1.59:1. It is compatible with 16 models in one model series. This guide presents the lens specifications, installation distance, model compatibility list, and replacement considerations in one place.

2. Calculating Installation Distance from the Throw Ratio

The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This is a zoom lens (1–1.59:1), so each image size corresponds to a range of distances and can be focused at any position within that range.

Image SizeImage WidthRequired Installation Distance
100 inches2.15 mApprox. 2.15 – 3.42 m
120 inches2.58 mApprox. 2.58 – 4.10 m
150 inches3.22 mApprox. 3.22 – 5.13 m
200 inches4.30 mApprox. 4.30 – 6.84 m

These figures represent the clear distance from the front element of the lens to the screen and do not include ventilation or cabling space behind the projector. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; in practice, verify the actual distance on site and consult the manual.

Image quality varies at the two ends of the zoom range: near the wide-angle end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the telephoto end, the edges are sharper and brightness is slightly reduced. Where site conditions permit, use the midpoint of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest position on the focus ring, then fine-tune the lens shift—adjusting both at the same time makes it difficult to achieve optimum focus.

3. Compatible Models (16 Models, Sony)

The table below is ordered by model production date, from newest to oldest, and includes the resolution, brightness, and zoom ratio of the factory-installed lens for each model, making it easy to identify suitable options for specific project requirements.

The zoom ratio is the zoom factor of the factory-standard lens for each model (upper limit ÷ lower limit of the native throw-ratio range), not the zoom range of the lens featured in this article.

Common Features of These Models

The factory-standard lenses for these 16 models generally have throw ratios within 1.39:1-2.23:1. The 1–1.59:1 ratio of the model featured here effectively shifts the focal range, allowing different image sizes at the same projection distance—this is the direct reason for replacing the lens. Full lens-shift capability is retained, allowing the image to remain properly aligned after the focal range is adjusted.

4. Three Checks Before Replacement

  • Verify the panel size. The panel specifications for this model have not yet been added to our database. Please send us a photo of the projector nameplate for confirmation.
  • Check the interface and locking mechanism. Interfaces are generally interchangeable across platforms of the same generation, but locking-clip positions vary between generations. If the image appears skewed or the edges are not sharp after installation, the lock is usually not fully engaged rather than the lens itself being faulty.
  • Allow extra zoom margin. When measuring the distance, allow an additional 10–20 cm beyond the range endpoints, as transportation and installation variations may place the lens outside the usable range.

For models not on the list, it is safer to send us photos of the projector nameplate and original lens for verification—platforms of the same generation often share interfaces, but ordering based solely on a similar model number carries unnecessary risk.
